Roberto: I have that book and I showed it to my principal back in October and we had a training on it. You can use GoToMeeting.com and have teachers interact with the presentation and/or ask questions throughout the training. It is a great tool. I believe it is free. Good luck with your project. jv
ReplyDeleteThanks Josephine, I will do.
DeleteI have never heard of that book. I'll look into it. So are the teachers going to implement strategic lessons from the book, such as higher level questioning strategies? Will the teachers be using a specific framework and using a quantifiable number of these lessons throughout the action research time frame? Like I said, I'll have to look at this book. It seems like a great research project!
ReplyDeleteThe teacher and the action research team will be developing the questioning strategies and the definition of rigor according to the reading. From here an observation form will be created and presented to the staff.

What will you be looking for in the walkthroughs? Are there specific strategies or ideas from the book that will be used?
ReplyDeleteThe teachers and the research committee will be creating the observation form. This will be targeting rigorous questioning that will be developed by the teachers during the training. We will use the book for guidance and clarification.
DeleteThanks for your input

Roberto, I am a little confused as to what teachers you will be doing walkthroughs on. Is it all teachers or only teachers participating in the study? If it is all teachers are they ok with other teachers doing walkthroughs on them. I know some teachers get a little aprehensive when they are evaluated by their peers. Other than that, I think your research project looks great.
ReplyDeleteMaria, in our school we have been grateful to have strategists for most of the content areas. So thanks to this, we will be observing all content area teachers. Our principal has made this a campus initiative so this will definitely help me with my project. In regards to walkthroughs, we have been a campus with many visitations and teacher observations from district personnel and state officials. Our teacher have gotten used to the positive support that these has brought to them. Also teachers have been informed that it is being used for research purposes and will not be used officially for their evaluation.

Robert,
ReplyDeleteI believe your action plan to increase the rigor of the education of our young students is definitely needed. To help to build critical thinking skills will be a tremendous asset to the students. Wishing you much success on your research plan.
